I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Ice Cream
What is something that takes you back to your childhood? Something that, ironically, brings warm feelings? That something is ice cream. Unless you have a severe lactose intolerance and if so, sucks for you!! Just kidding. Really, though, as a kid you were treated to ice cream as a weekly tradition or celebrate at a birthday party or as a reward for acing a test. It was exciting choosing your flavor and telling the person at the counter your choice, if you went to an ice cream shop. Maybe you went to Carvel for scoops of mint, chocolate, or strawberry ice cream. Your parents might have taken you to a mom and pop shop for some soft serve ice cream cone. Maybe they had a seesaw outside where you where you and a sibling have a contest to see who can go higher. Or even having a tub of Breyer’s rocky road for after your dinner of fried chicken, mashed potato a side of vegetables. When you finished your veggies you were allowed a scoop of it.
Like many of you, I grew up with similar memories. I loved ice cream then and still love ice cream til this very day. I am actually lactose intolerant. So I can’t have ice cream all that often but I don’t mind because it means that when I do get to have it makes it that much more special.
Changes throughout mystory
Throughout the years my taste in ice cream has changed. When I was younger, I loved the sugary, sweeter ice creams; where as now I like the more natural-flavored, less sweet ice cream. My favorite brand is Haagen Dazs. It is one of the more natural, creamy, and delicious ice cream brands out there. The quality is also very good which is reflected in their products. Not to say that I don’t like other brands. I do, brands such as, Ben & Jerry’s. Not all of the flavors but a few such as Red Velvet Cake and Milk & Cookies.
Black Ice Cream
Well I am all about finding awesome places to eat. I love people come up with unique and creative ideas for any kind of food whether it be savory or sweet. About a year ago, I read an article about black ice cream at an ice cream shop, Morgenstern’s Finest Ice Cream. I just had to try it. IT IS BLACK ICE CREAM. Aside from the color blue, getting something food related in black is exciting for me. So I shared the article with The Kid and told him that I really wanted to go there. That I needed to try the black ice cream. BLACK ICE CREAM!! I needed it in my life.
Finally we went to Morgenstern’s after waiting about two weeks. When we got there, there was a line outside the door and down the block. So we got in line and made the mandatory small talk. Blah blah blah blah. You know, the “get me through this line to the ice cream” talk. We did, finally make it inside and started to check out all the awesome options they had for us. They had a lot of ice cream flavors, sorbets, drinks and toppings. So many combinations that could be made and I was a kid in a candy shop not knowing what to pick. My head was spinning, what to choose? I only knew that i had to have the black ice cream that was actually Black Coconut Ash.
CHOICES, CHOICES
After a long debate in my head, i chose a scoop of smokey mocha and course Black Coconut Ash with fudge and it was so life-altering. It was the most delightfully different ice cream I had ever had. If I had dreamt about the best ice cream, it would not …nay, could not compare to Morgenstern’s Finest Ice Cream . It could turn a frown upside down. Brings sunshine to the night sky. The combination was like an opera in your mouth or an orchestra playing Beethoven’s Midnight Sonata while a display of lights goes on. I instantly loved the combination and the flavors individually. The fudge was easily the best fudge that I had ever had on ice cream, even beating that of Haagen Dazs.
Even my husband enjoyed his which was a scoop of their Bourbon Vanilla with condensed milk topping. He, too, said it was the best ice cream he had ever had. His combination wasn’t too sweet. The Bourbon Vanilla is not your typical vanilla. If you wanted something special without any real craziness then this won’t disappoint. All of their flavors are taking your ice cream experience to a whole other level. They have a few flavor categories like vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and coffee but all revamped childhood flavors with added awesomeness plus sophistication.
A trip down memory lane, now
The place itself would bring back childhood memories. On one side there are stools at the counter and on the other side there are actual student desk chairs like in school. Not only do you get great ice cream flavors, many interesting toppings and a familiar environment, you also get nostalgia to the best years of carefree enjoyment. An experience you can have anytime you visit Morgenstern’s Finest Ice cream. Let me know if you have gone and how was it? What was your favorite combination? How would you describe your experience?

So did it taste like coconut? If you ever find a place that has macadamia brittle ice cream please please pleaseeeeeees let me know. I loved that ice cream but haagen daaz discontinued it a few tears ago.
It does not taste like coconut, really. It is the ash so the coconut-y is gone. It is something between toasted coconut and the darkest chocolate without being bitter. It is delicious and refreshing, also pairs with the other flavors very nicely. I have not found a place that has macadamia brittle but Morgenstern’s has awesome choices that you may like.
