Give me my worth?
I was recently watching something on television and had a thought about The Kid which was “I hope I can get to a place where I am worthy of you”, however soon after that I had another thought. My thought was ” why do I feel like I need to make myself worthy of someone’s love?” My worth should come from me and categorized by myself. Is loving someone not based on the person rather than their accomplishments and status? Shouldn’t being loved by your partner be deeper than having a well-paying job considering the vows you take include “richer or poorer” and “in sickness and health” unless it is strictly a business deal. That is different from love and I guess placing a monetary value on your relationship for a business deal to me feels almost prostitution-like. which most people do not look for. That would be a totally different story and frankly not the kind of value I need to have placed upon me unless buying a house or getting a car and then by a bank or broker and not by a partner.
Love is more than the material….
When did ‘love’ become about the outside and the things that perish away? Is it not enough to be a kind-hearted, good person that loves to take care of people? Does one only have a resume to show their worth or a bank statement? We do so much for the eyes of others when in fact the one opinion that matters on this earth is our own. Validation should not be outsourced. Yes, it is great to feel appreciation from others, however if we “try” in life for the simple fact of getting peer gratification then we invalidate the important and powerful term “self-worth” rendering it meaningless.
Find your worth from within
We are not better than others but we’re also not less than, either. It is important to know that we/I are/am important and full of worth. We should surround ourselves with people whom believe just that. We should also not try to tear down others’ sense of self-worth. If we were to compare ourselves to what we think makes someone worthy to others then we will be on a long miserable, empty road. Just be the best person you can be, treat others with love, consideration and respect. Remember that your word matters to those you give it to. Don’t forget to do those same things to yourself: respect yourself, be considerate to yourself, keep your word to yourself and treat yourself with love. Also, remember that you are worthy of love already.
