Taco Bell and I Have Never Been Friends

I was never a fan of Taco Bell. I have never thought that they had quality food. All of their items tasted the same to me. I used to go to Taco Bell for lunch when I was in high school but only because it was in close proximity to my school. Also, because I also had to work with an allowance so that meant the cheaper the food the better. Sometimes that meant that taste would not be a deciding factor. As I got older, my taste in food changed and grew with me. I fell in love with the different flavors and different ingredient combinations that can be done. Quality matters in food. It matters to me.

Sometimes people eat bad things on purpose

I found out that my husband likes Taco Bell and was surprised because it is one worst fast food places around. He says when he is in the mood for bad junk food he goes to Taco bell but to me that sounded crazy, still. What could he possibly want from Taco Bell? He says it was fine to him. When I met The Kid, he didn’t have good taste in food. I showed him the way. I had him try a lot of different kinds of food and taught him what awesome food was. To think, he used to be fine with cardboard as long as it didn’t have Adobo on it.

Fine Taco Bell, You WIN….I will Give You A Shot

So after much talking about eating bad junk food, it made me crave it. This surprised me because I have never craved Taco Bell before. I usually crave Five Guys or Wendy’s if I want junk food, which is rare. I normally want food that isn’t already prepared for you or that you only wait at most five minutes to get. It shocked me that I wanted Taco Bell. Reluctantly, I decided to get give Taco Bell a fair try and I also wanted to try the new Naked Chicken Chips.

I decided to get the naked chicken chip box because The Kid and I watched a video by YouTuber TheReportoftheWeek  about them. The review wasn’t very positive but that didn’t stop me from wanting to try them. The box includes the naked chicken chips with a cheese dipping sauce, a crunchy taco and a burrito supreme beef. I decided I wanted to swap my crunchy taco for a Fiery Doritos Locos Taco because I had the nacho cheese Doritos taco before and was unimpressed. Maybe this would be different because it was fiery Doritos. I also got the Airheads Mystery flavored freeze for my drink. My last item that I ordered was the cheesy roll-up. The Kid chose a few items for himself, of which included the Beefy Nacho Griller and Chalupa Supreme-Beef.

What was the outcome?

So, what did it all taste like? How did it turn out? Very surprising, actually.  Let’s be clear on one thing: Taco Bell is not authentic Mexican food. It is not close it and we ( my mother is half Mexican, born and raised in Mexico) don’t use those hard shells for tacos. Our tacos are very flavorful.

I actually ended up somewhat liking five items from the whole menu. One was the cheesy roll-up. I mean, how can you really mess up something that has just cheese and a tortilla? Unless, it is the poorest quality cheese, it will be alright. Plus, I love cheese and tortillas. The Fiery Doritos taco had so much more of the Doritos flavor than the nacho cheese Doritos taco. It tasted like actual Doritos. It gave the meat ( that always tastes the same) some actual flavor. If you want n even more Doritos-y flavored taco, you can try the cool ranch flavored taco shell. The Beefy Nacho Griller was actually better than expected with the chips in the griller, giving it a different texture. It is not actually crunchy but not very mushy like the meat and the rest of the ingredients. It went well with the rest of the ingredients. The chips bring life to the griller. The one surprising item that they have is their chalupa. The deep fried tortilla shell is pretty tasty. My husband thinks it’s the bomb.com. It makes the rest of the ingredients taste better than normal blah taste they have. The very last item that is my favorite is The Airheads Mystery flavored freeze. It tasted just like an Airhead candy. I don’t even know how they made something so good. It is like they melted the candy into liquid and then they made it into a slushie. The mystery flavor ended up being blue raspberry and it is the best blue raspberry slushie we have ever had. Better than the blue raspberry from any movie theater we have ever been to.

Naked Chicken Chips….

Not impressed by the Naked Chicken Chips. The breading was pretty decent, better than the breading for McD’s chicken nuggets. The meat, however, was very mushy and tasteless. The cheese gave it a tiny bit of flavor but it is artificial tasting just like the nacho cheese dip from the movie theater. A cool sounding item, the Naked Chicken Chips but not actually a good item or exciting.I mean, this is fast food, what can you expect? Well better than this chicken chips, I can tell you that.
