Small Getaway to Atlantic City Leads to Sad Guy’s Bar-B-Que Joint

RX: A Small Getaway

Sometimes you need a break from the everyday to reconnect and work somethings out. Well The Kid and I did just that, we got away. JUST US. It was needed and well-deserved. It was only for a few weekdays, a small getaway and just to Atlantic City but we were alone and happy to be there. We left for AC on Labor Day in a Greyhound bus which had no ac haha. This was going to be our second time there so Groupon and us decided to stay at the hotel we had originally stayed at, the Showboat. The trip, while small, was beneficial and we packed quite a few things into the including walking more than 6 miles a day. I had (still have some) the blisters to prove it.

Join Me for a Bite at Kirsh Bakery & Kitchen

Do you know Kirsh Bakery, Kirsh Bakery, Kirsh Bakery ????

I have been on a subconscious journey in NYC (mainly Manhattan) to find a cute spot to go have a bite with the people closest to me or just myself. Like I have stated in posts prior, that it is not about just the delicious food (though it is very important, believe me) it is also about that place that helps to deliver a great eating experience. I have found such a place in Kirsh Bakery & Kitchen. The food is delicious (which I will touch upon later in the this post) but also the place itself is cute. The place is simple in decor and color but at the same time not so simple. The aesthetic is one part as well as the service leaves nothing to be desired.

Mac n’ Cheetos and My Mom Plus all the in Between

Mac n’ Cheetos?? Do tell….

I saw a video about Mac n’ Cheetos from Burger King by Reportoftheweek on YouTube and obviously it would make me need to try them out. I mean, Cheetos and mac n’ cheese. What is there not to like? I love cheese and almost anything that has cheese on it or in it. So of course I was excited to try it but this time I didn’t know when I would be getting a chance to try them because the closest Burger King locations were not very sanitary. It had to be put on the back burner until I could find a decent Burger King. Mac n’ Cheetos, Mac n’ Cheetos, all I want is Mac n’ Cheetos… Mac n’ Cheetos please!!!!!!

Time for a Taco Bell Fresh Start

Taco Bell and I Have Never Been Friends

I was never a fan of Taco Bell. I have never thought that they had quality food. All of their items tasted the same to me. I used to go to Taco Bell for lunch when I was in high school but only because it was in close proximity to my school. Also, because I also had to work with an allowance so that meant the cheaper the food the better. Sometimes that meant that taste would not be a deciding factor. As I got older, my taste in food changed and grew with me. I fell in love with the different flavors and different ingredient combinations that can be done. Quality matters in food. It matters to me.

Arby’s Smokehouse Pork Belly Sandwich: We Ate

PORK BELLY SANDWICH REVIEW!!!!!

So The Kid and I watch a YouTube channel called ReportoftheWeek and he reviews fast food restaurants. He is pretty funny and we like the reviews he gives. Well, one of the more recent videos was for Arby’s Pork Belly sandwich. Though he said it was greasy, he also said it tasted good.It looked good so I decided I needed to try it and review it myself. So we did.

Black Ice Cream: Morgenstern’s Finest Ice Cream

I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Ice Cream

What is something that takes you back to your childhood? Something that, ironically, brings warm feelings? That something is ice cream. Unless you have a severe lactose intolerance and if so, sucks for you!! Just kidding. Really, though, as a kid you were treated to ice cream as a weekly tradition or celebrate at a birthday party or as a reward for acing a test. It was exciting choosing your flavor and telling the person at the counter your choice, if you went to an ice cream shop. Maybe you went to Carvel for scoops of mint, chocolate, or strawberry ice cream. Your parents might have taken you to a mom and pop shop for some soft serve ice cream cone. Maybe they had a seesaw outside where you where you and a sibling have a contest to see who can go higher. Or even having a tub of Breyer’s rocky road for after your dinner of fried chicken, mashed potato a side of vegetables. When you finished your veggies you were allowed a scoop of it.

Trip to the Nail Salon: Purple Manicure

Today I went to get my nails done thanks to my mom

So today my mom asked if I wanted to get my nails manicured with her, she was going to treat me. Obviously, I said yes because why not? It is free, you get a hand massage and someone other than me would paint my nails and get it done better than I ever could. I rarely paint my nails let alone go to the nail salon to get it done. I am by no means a girly girl but it does feel nice to have things done like manicures, pedicures and getting your hair done. So when I can treat myself or someone treats me to it, every so often, I take the chance. It is good to let yourself get pampered. Sometimes, especially after a long week…..month…year, it feels so good to have a little relaxation.

Cheesy Potatoes That I made Last Night

A recipe look-up….

So recently my mom asked me to look up a recipe for scalloped potatoes for our dinner for Resurrection Sunday. I did, fairly easy job. I showed her the recipe and the ingredients for it. She looked them over and said “okay”. That was that. I didn’t print it nor did I write it out thinking that I would just show it to her on Sunday and it would be fine. Well Sunday rolled around and The Kid and I went to church in the morning. We got back and after I made us a snack, I worked on a blog post. I was done fairly late considering I was supposed to show my mom the recipe.

The Donut Burger I Always Wanted

The News….

A few weeks ago my mother told me that a local restaurant called Heights Tavern had closed and Crazy Annie’s had replaced it. Now Heights Tavern was a breath of fresh air to the area when it first opened. The decor was like that of the upper west and east side restaurants of Manhattan. A nice change to most of the dull and out-dated restaurants in the area. They had different food which was of good quality and had outdoor seating, even providing interesting brunch options like corn flake crusted french toast. The quality of food, service and care went down after a while. There would be issues with our servers not caring if we were taken care of. People frequented the restaurant less while my husband and I stopped all together.

The Brindle Burger: Quest for the Best Burger in NYC

The Journey Begins…

My husband and I stumbled upon a video, NYC’S Best Burger, Explained on the YouTube channel First We Feast (which btw has interesting content) that was the Brindle Room burger from Brindle Room. The burger’s name is actually Sebastian’s Steakhouse Burger and it is the only burger on the menu. My husband and I have an affinity for burgers. We have actually been on a journey to find the best burgers in Manhattan so we needed to try this delicious looking burger from the video. The one drawback it had was the stigma of being called the “best” in that food category. When given that title, it usually is not. You put yourself on a high pedestal that usually you can’t live up to.

Well after we saw the video, I wanted to do two things: 1. Taste the “best” burger & 2. See if it actually is the best burger because I love food. I love eating great food and I love creating food which I hope turns out to be great.
